A New Adventure
The door on the moving truck squealed with either excitement or a lack of WD-40 as it rolled down for the last time. We were packed and ready to head up the hill to our new home. It was winter. The snow was on the ground but, to our great fortune, it was a crisp, clear day. I looked around at everyone and made a mental snapshot of the moment. This was the start of a new adventure. One that not only had me eager to jump headfirst into but one I knew my family was bursting at the seams to begin.
As we're now in late June, we're mostly settled into this new town, school, lifestyle, and routine. The vibe is different and it's been wonderful.
As I sit here ready to launch this website, I can't help but observe that this, too, is a new adventure. While I have appreciated my work in photography for quite some time, I always paralleled it with something else in my life - whether that was my career in corporate America, my consulting business, or even my editing business. It's a sublime feeling to follow your heart - and to take full hold of the reigns towards a new direction.
Today is World Giraffe Day and I found it the perfect day to take this site live. Not only do I adore these amazing creatures, but giraffes are my late mom's favorite animal. She had the largest collection of giraffe memorabilia I have ever seen. It was incredible. To this day, we have a stuffie of my mom's in our home named Leonard that my kiddos have adopted. I also have a small collection of her giraffes and reminisce about the special moments we shared whenever I see these precious, long-necked beauties. My mom always reminded me of the fragility of life and the importance of embracing every moment. Continuing forward in this new adventure is another nod towards doing just that - and this part of the expedition is a tribute to her as well.
